THE
LONELY
ROAD
There is only one undiscovered road
left for me to travel.
It will be a tiresome and arduous passage,
with many obstacles
and bridges to cross along the way.
I am not looking forward to the journey
with the enthusiasm of youth,
only the weariness of old age.
It will be undertaken on my own,
at my own pace,
in my own time.
It is a lonely road —
one that we all must travel.
Yet
I am not afraid of the road.
I travel in the knowledge
that loved ones will be waiting for me
at journey’s end —
those whom I have not seen for many years.
I have missed them all fiercely.
It will be good to see them again.
On arrival at my final destination,
I will not be so lonely anymore.
