Champagne in the Rain

When it’s raining
Chill Champagne
It helps to take away the pain
Of dreary days and endless nights

Don’t waste it on a sunny day
When all is lovely, fair, and bright
Drink it on the rainy days
It warms the soul
And brings back the light

Toast to good times in the past
Remember, gloomy days don’t last
Have a sip
And have some fun
Think of good things
And you’ll find the Sun.

“Champagne in the Rain” is a delightful exploration of finding joy in dreary moments. The poem suggests that rather than saving our celebrations for perfect sunny days, we should embrace life’s rainy moments with a touch of luxury. It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes the best way to chase away the gloom is to create our own sunshine – even if that means popping open a bottle of champagne on a grey day. The verses flow with an easy rhythm, carrying a message of resilience and optimism, encouraging readers to find light in darker times.

Peter J. Watson’s collection “Daftness and Other Afflictions” emerged from a deeply personal journey, where writing served initially as therapy before evolving into something more whimsical. Writing from Yorkshire, Watson brings a refreshing authenticity to his work, crafting poems that speak to everyday experiences with both wit and wisdom. His style, described as “relatable to the ordinary person,” makes poetry accessible while leaving readers with moments of thoughtful reflection. If you enjoy poetry that combines real-life observations with gentle humor and occasional cynicism, this collection offers a perfect blend of both.
