The Road Taken

I took the road like Robert Frost
It really made no difference
For every road I ever trod
I was met with great indifference

I travelled forward hopefully
To meet my fate just as I should
Often the best that I could achieve
Was to find my way from out the wood

I stumbled and I fell at times
Yet, always pressing onward
The path of least resistance
Is the one I did not choose

I saw the signs, yet moved along
Convinced I could not lose
When looking back, I ponder long
On the roads that I might have travelled

Whatever the missteps I took
Or when the signs were wrong
This path I trod, this is my life
This road has made me strong.

“The Road Taken” is a thoughtful reflection on life’s journey, drawing inspiration from Robert Frost’s famous work while carving its own unique path. The poem explores how every road traveled, whether by choice or circumstance, shapes who we become. Unlike Frost’s focus on the road not taken, this piece celebrates the path actually walked, acknowledging that while we may stumble and fall, it’s these very experiences that make us stronger.

“Daftness and Other Afflictions” is Peter J. Watson’s debut collection of poetry, written from his home in North Yorkshire. His work strikes a delicate balance between whimsy and wisdom, often viewing life’s complexities through a distinctly Yorkshire lens. Watson’s poetry speaks to everyday people, offering relatable observations about life, love, and the peculiarities of human nature. If you enjoy poetry that makes you think while bringing a smile to your face, this collection is worth adding to your bookshelf.
