The Sea
It rages. It feeds. It produces life.
It can be gracious or hostile.
Only I will decide.
My union with the Earth is non-negotiable. I dictate the balance.
For over thirteen billion years, I have given you warnings.
I have shaken the Earth, causing great destruction.
My seas and oceans have sent fire and ice
Because of what your actions have caused.
I produce giant waves to eat you —
And still, you persist in defying me.
When will you learn to cooperate?
Cooperation is your only salvation,
For only then will you survive.
Your giant wooden plants breathe in carbon dioxide
And exhale oxygen.
You breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.
Nothing is in isolation.
And so it is within the depths of my seas,
Providing the Earth with 50–70% of its oxygen.
My seas and oceans are so great,
They are beyond your understanding.
I can bring you joy and inspiration.
Swell your heart with beauty and calm.
Provide the conditions required
For the evolution of all living things.
Most of life remains hidden, as yet undiscovered.
We are on the surface, separated like islands —
But connected in the deep.
We work together, you see!
You have salt in your blood,
in your sweat,
and in your tears.
I give you the oxygen.
I give you life.
Every breath you take… thank me.
For I am your future.
