Does running a weⅼl-established blog like yours take a massive amount of work?

Hey! I realizе this is kind of off-topic but I had to aѕk. Does running a weⅼl-established blog like yours take a massive amount ԝork? I am brand neѡ to operating a blog but I do write in my journal every ɗay. I’d liкe to start a blog so I can easily share my personal eҳρerience аnd thouցhts online. Please let me know if you have any kind of suggestions or tips for new aspiring ƅloggers. Τhankyou!

Hello,

We’re a small group of authors and a poet (probably the ideal ratio of authors to poet in any writing group, regardless of size! 🙄😬🤣). I’m an old Spectrum programmer from the stone age of computing who’s quite willing to “have a go.”

I built our first website just over a year ago – a basic one offering author pages, blogs, and magazine downloads. During our first year, we tried limited advertising through Facebook group posts and our website, with minimal lasting results. The demise of Twitter/X taught us not to rely too heavily on social media, so we decided to enhance our website.

I spent six weeks watching about an hour of YouTube videos daily on hosting solutions and website editors. I chose WordPress, partly due to familiarity but also for its popularity and numerous plugins (tools for establishing specific looks or functions).

After selecting a style and finding a tutorial video, implementation was surprisingly simple. Though not a complete novice with WordPress, I’m far from professional. There followed a few frustrating weeks of learning to tweak and alter the website. Things occasionally went wrong, but that’s normal and actually helps the learning process.

The learning curve involves some frustration, but YouTube is an invaluable resource. Recently, I’ve been using Perplexity AI, which is fantastic for answering questions and providing solutions. Despite occasional limitations, it’s worth the £20 monthly subscription.

Once your website is set up, adding posts becomes straightforward. I use Perplexity to convert our group’s stories and poems into markup, which can be pasted directly into new posts with proper formatting. The entire process takes about 5 minutes per post.

If you’re satisfied with your initial setup, this might be all you need. However, the internet evolves constantly, and websites age like everything else. We view our website as a gallery displaying our art. By investing in a quality gallery, we hope to share our stories – perhaps even sell something from the shop!

It can become a project you tinker with, potentially consuming spare time depending on your inclination. Nevertheless, it’s an effective way to promote your work without a publishing deal.

I recommend watching website-building tutorials on YouTube. Research different hosting deals and check out my blog where I detail our website-building process.

Watch the tutorials first without trying to memorize steps – most steps only make sense when you actually implement them. Focus on whether you like the end results and if they suit your needs.

In conclusion, creating a basic website for regular post updates requires less work than you might expect. You might even enjoy the optimization process as it becomes a project in itself!

Simon
